6 Reasons Why You Should Call Forest Ridge Home

Find me on:

Allow us to introduce Forest Ridge – a naturally beautiful community in the city of Fort Saskatchewan, just 10 minutes northeast of Edmonton. Take a drive out – you can walk through the interpretive forest down the river, stop by the new playground for a quick swing or visit the Showhomes.

Here are six things we love about Forest Ridge, and we think you’ll feel the same!

A Family-Friendly Community

Family members of all ages will enjoy exploring the parks, play areas and paved pathways of Forest Ridge. The community offers multiple playgrounds, including a new nature-inspired structure in the northeast corner (off Woodbridge Link). When enrolling kids in school, parents can choose from Public and Catholic schools in the area. And, for all your family’s health care needs, the Fort Saskatchewan Community Hospital is a 5-minute drive away.

Close to Nature

In addition to the community’s abundant green spaces, you can visit the nearby North Saskatchewan River Valley with its lush interpretive forest and wetland conservation area. The West River’s Edge Pavilion features a stocked fish pond, fenced off-leash dog park, boat launch, barbecue pits and hiking trails. Thirty minutes to the west, Elk Island National Park is a popular destination for camping, stargazing and wildlife appreciation.

Convenient Shopping

Just minutes away from Forest Ridge, the WestPark Centre offers a variety of shops, restaurants and services. Within Fort Saskatchewan, you also have access to familiar retailers like Walmart, Home Depot, Canadian Tire and Shoppers Drug Mart.

Commuting Options

If you work in Edmonton, living in Forest Ridge gives you a manageable drive and a chance to get away from it all at the end of the work day. The City of Fort Saskatchewan also offers peak hour Commuter Transit Service, in conjunction with Edmonton Transit, to and from the Clareview LRT station.

Recreation Facilities

This area has top-quality venues for sports and recreation, including:

  • Pryce Alderson Park – within walking distance from Forest Ridge, you’ll find baseball diamonds, soccer fields, outdoor fitness equipment, a basketball court and a splash pad.
  • Dow Centennial Centre – an impressive multi-purpose facility for indoor and outdoor sports, including hockey, soccer, football, volleyball and basketball.
  • Jubilee Recreation Centre – a 1,586-seat arena for hockey, ringette and figure skating.
  • Harbour Pool – a large indoor aquatic centre with a six-lane swimming pool, hot tub and water slide.
  • Fort Saskatchewan Golf and Curling Club – play nine holes in the summer or throw some rocks in the winter.

Local Events

The city of Fort Saskatchewan has a diverse lineup of annual festivals and events, such as a giant pancake breakfast on Canada Day and the unique Sheep Leaving Parade in the fall. In December, local businesses and organizations collaborate to create an Enchanted Forest of twinkling Christmas trees.
